Peter, a hero?

Peter is a hero, he stopped England from turning into a corrupt nation ruled by a tyrant. Even though it was not on purpose, he still saved England and that makes him a hero. This makes him and accidental hero.
In the beginning of the novel Peter's main goal was to run from Sir Philip and his men, not saving the Queen of England from her death. It was because of series of event that followed the initial incident such as him hiding away in a coffin and becoming and actor, meeting Kit, getting hired by Shakespeare, giving the Shakespeare's play to the yellow gentlemen, and taking the letter from the yellow gentleman's house that told his partner's where to meet. All these event led to Peter discovering about Sir Philip's plot to assassinate the queen.
Even though the events helped Peter to save the queen, it was still Peter's choice and actions that helped him. Peter could have ignored the letter he found, he could've got stuck on the island he was being held hostage at, there were so many things that could have prevented Peter from saving the queen. Peter did the right thing even though he had to risk his life many times, in the end it was because of him that the queen was saved so he deserves to be called a hero.
Peter is a lot like the Good Samaritans that saved the passenger of a plane crash that occurred in Richmond, British Columbia on October 27, 2011. When the plane crash, several bystanders rushed to the plane and began to pull out the passengers trapped inside of it. It was because of these "heroes" that everyone made it out alive except the pilot who unfortunately died at the hospital. These bystanders were normal civilians who probably weren't fire fighters and probably not trained in rescuing people out of burning planes. Peter wasn't trained in being a secret agent and stopping traitors from killing the queen, he was a normal 15 year old boy of the lower class in a town that lived off farming!
Peter is a great example of someone who did the right thing and became a hero. He saved the queen because he thought it was the right thing to do, he also got the common land Sir Philip took away back. He is an accidental hero!

  1. I agree with you Brandon. Peter is a accidental hero.I haven't finish the book but from where I am Peter gets into different sorts of situations leading him accidentally becoming a hero. That is also around what you said. One thing I think maybe you should change is this sentence' Even though the events helped Peter to save the queen, it was still Peter's choice and actions that helped him.' You may want some examples on what is 'Choices and actions' were. Yeah there was things that would have prevent Peter from eventually saving the queen, but those were his decisions. We can't just say he could have prevented the situation that occurred by taking another 'road' but he didn't and their is nothing we can do about it. You are right he did deserve to be called a hero for his actions against the attempted assassination of the queen by Sir Philip. Good example, those people have probably never save someone from plane crash in their lives. What I disagree with this sentence ' Peter is a great example of someone who did the right thing and became a hero.' Is that Peter was not intending to become a hero he was just doing what was right, actually Peter was in with the secret agent situation he was in just because he knew that Sir Philip would get executed. Good job Brandon! :)

  2. Very nice Brendon. I especially liked how you connected the heroes in the plane crash to Peter saving the Queen, very original.
Though I could ask you this. What if Peter was working for Sir Philip and the knights of treason instead of Queen Elizabeth? Imagine their situations reversed, Peter saved Sir Philip instead of Elizabeth, on Sir Philip's side instead of Elizabeth's? Would that make him a hero? He still saved someone's life, while putting his own in danger.I think you should be more specific, because the person he saved could change his future reputation completely. For example, if Osama Bin Laden was saved from assassination from one of his soldiers, would that soldier be considered a hero? Please consider revising your post.
Though in general, very good work.

  3. David, first of all you can make many different scenarios that could have started in the beginning of the story so you can't just say, 'What if Peter was working for Sir Philip and the knights of treason instead of Queen Elizabeth? Imagine their situations reversed, Peter saved Sir Philip instead of Elizabeth, on Sir Philip's side instead of Elizabeth's?' that's not fair to what the author wrote! David you need to consider revising YOUR comment about Brandon's post not him revising his post!

  4. @ Austyn.

I am afraid that you have misinterpreted the message of my comment. It is not the scenario that I am asking for, I am asking him to be more specific. Brendon only said that saving one's life or rescuing someone from ill fate could make them be considered a hero. So let me ask you the same question Austyn, if Peter did save Sir Philip, would he be considered a hero? I am asking Brendon to be a bit more specific in that category. I am not requesting him to deliver a message to every possible scenario I can think of. Ms Lees said to be as specific as possible, and I think that it is within Brendon's ability to be more specific about how who the person one rescues can affect whether or not he or she can be considered a hero .Does that clear up some confusion?

  5. I don't think the person your saving will affect whether or not you are a hero because a hero is just a title given to you by someone. If Peter rescued Sir Philip, Peter would become Sir Philip's "hero".
